I haven't strayed very far from my boyhood home and still live in Johnson County. After graduating from SM, I went directly into the U.S. Army. Went through  basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, and spent the rest of my active duty  stateside, at Ft. Eustis, VA, Ft. Jackson, SC, and Ft. Carson CO. Returning from active duty, I enrolled at Kansas State and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation I hired on as a salesman with a small Manufacturers' Rep agency which sold industrial metalworking tooling and later became a partner in the agency. When my older partner retired in 1988, I became the owner. In May of 2004 I sold the business to my new partner and am now retired. Through a happy coincidence, I met the love of my life in April of 1970. Rosemary was teaching college-prep English at Shawnee Mission South and became friends with my mother who also taught in the English department. I am very lucky that, for once, I followed my mother's advice to "give that gal a call." We were married in August of 1971 and celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary this year. Our only daughter, Jennifer is happily married and living in Olathe. No grandkids yet, but who knows? Since retirement, I've had more time to devote to my various interests, the foremost of which is amateur astronomy. In 2003 I built a private observatory on some land that I own in Linn County, Kansas. Since its completion, I've spent many pleasant nights there observing and photographing the night skies. This hobby is not only stimulating to the mind and eye, but really helps keep the rest of my life in perspective. If any of you are interested in checking out my astronomical activities, my observatory has a website at http://www.astrolandofoz.com . My other interests are hunting (in the fall my astronomical activities take a hiatus), flying, travel (we just got back from a wonderful Alaskan cruise!) and following open-wheel auto racing (I go to the annual Indy Car race at Kansas Speedway each year, and have also been to two U.S Formula 1 Grand Prix).
I also get to spend a lot of time catching up on my reading (I am a Borders and Barnes & Noble junkie).  I'm really looking forward to seeing and sharing stories with old classmates at the reunion. Hopefully, we won't have too much trouble recognizing each other!

After graduating from Shawnee Mission, I joined the Army and never got past Alabama and then later stayed with the famiy business, see below.
I plan to attend both the Hickory Grove and Roseland School picnics.  I'm sorry that I can't make the reunion events.  My wife, Vicki, and I have been happily married for 34 years and you see our first and only grandchild studying to be a cartoonist like her grandpa.  My wife and both my daughters graduated  from the Shawnee Mission School System and are all teachers.  So I can say that I am a proud father and grandfather and hope to see you at the picnics.
I promised a couple of people that I would write a little bit about our family store in Mission, KS. I am sorry that I have procrastinated to do so. Our address was 5314 Johnson Drive and it was across from what is now Capital Federal Savings and next to Hudson Oil Service Station. This was the old part of town and most of these buildings were tore down in the 1950's. It was called Charlie's Farm market. There were other markets. I believe one was called Reeders and another was owned by Jim Grider. Each store was unique. What made our store stand out was we had not only groceries and dairy products indoors but we featured seasonal items such as tomato plants, fresh produce, rose bushes, and even, fireworks and Christmas trees. I still remember my Dad delivering the biggest Douglas fir tree to Hickory Grove every Christmas. One thing that stands out in my mind is our large metal watermelon tank. We filled it with cakes of ice and Black Diamond watermelons! My brother, Harold (Class of '58) and I always complained about how our hands froze when we had to dig out the biggest watermelon on the bottom of the tank. A block or 2 across the street of our store was an old farm house that I can still see Mr. and Mrs. Dupont walking behind a plow pulled by a horse or mule. This was later a Texaco station and is now a bank. Also, in the area at one time or another was a pony rink, an archery target, and a small locomotive and train that the children could ride. I could go on and on about how the Johnson Drive brick road was laid or about Gypsy caravans, army convoys and parades including a float when Eisenhower was running for President. Or I could talk about chaufer driven cars parked in front of my Dad's store. I could go on and on but I will tell those of you that are interested at the Roesland and Hickory Grove picnics. See you then. Good health and much happiness to you all.

I'm glad to see photos of so many classmates.  After 50 years I barely remember names, so having recent photos helps.

After marrying Penny Asel (Baker U) in 1963 I worked for 30 years for Sears and IBM.  During that time we had 2 wonderful children and now 3 grandchildren.  I retired in 1993 and have enjoyed playing golf (I worked part time at my local golf course for 8 summers), reading  and being with my grandchildren.  We visit Florida in the winter and play around at home during the summers.

I've been living in the Memphis area off and on for the past 30 years. I no longer am involved with theater or the performing arts, but have moved into flower design. I live in the country on a small acreage with my many animals. I, also, enjoy mystery novels in my limited spare time. I still work at least 6 days a week at the flower shop. I'm looking forward to next year because this will be the first time I've been back since '62.
